PUNK-ROCK DOCUMENTARY TO SHAKE UP THE SHOWROOM
Asbury Cinema Will Host Documentary Featuring Legendary Punk-Rock Band and Record Label

ASBURY PARK (Sept. 10, 2009) – The ShowRoom, Asbury Park’s independent cinema and multipurpose venue, announced today the screening of “Let Them Know: The Story of Youth Brigade and BYO Records” on Wednesday, September 16 at 8:00 p.m. The film tells the often overlooked story of Youth Brigade, BYO (Better Youth Organization), and brothers Shawn and Mark Stern’s 25-year involvement in the punk-rock movement.

Founded in 1982 by the Stern brothers from Youth Brigade, BYO was both a political movement and business venture, helping bands put on shows, release records and get their music out to the world. BYO Records is a result of this grassroots movement and stands today as one of the oldest surviving independent punk-rock labels in the world.

“Let Them Know” documents the early Los Angeles punk- and D.I.Y.-scene, showcasing an ideology that focused on anti-consumerism and rejection of the mainstream. It includes rare footage and interviews from many key players in the birth of the So-Cal punk scene, giving an insider’s perspective to the film. Riots, harassment from the law, dedicated bands and the Stern brother's desire to change the world through punk rock are captured in this moving 86-minute documentary.

Currently, Youth Brigade is touring in support of the film and will be playing at Asbury Lanes on Friday, September 18. For more information, or to purchase tickets for the film, please visit www.theshowroomap.com or call 732-502-0472.
